Privacy Policy for R370 Status Check App

R370 Status Check (“the app”) is an independent, unofficial status checker for the SASSA SRD R370 grant. It is not operated by, affiliated with, or endorsed by SASSA or any government body.

What the app collects, and where it goes

To check your grant status, the app asks for your 13-digit South African ID number and the mobile number you used to apply. When you press “Check status”, these two values are sent over a secure (TLS) connection to:

  1. SASSA directly (srd.sassa.gov.za) – the default route; or
  2. our forwarding server – used only when SASSA cannot be reached directly. This server forwards your request to SASSA verbatim, stores nothing, keeps no logs of your details, and strips identifying headers before forwarding.

Your details are used for the sole purpose of retrieving your status from SASSA. We do not save, log, sell, or share your personal information — anywhere, ever.

What stays on your phone

  • If you tick “Remember on this phone”, your ID and mobile number are stored in your phone’s encrypted secure storage only. They never leave the device except inside a status check you initiate. You can delete them at any time in Settings → Remembered ID numbers.
  • Your last successful result is cached on the device so you can see it while offline. Deleting a remembered ID also deletes its cached result.

Notifications

  • Monthly payday reminders (15th and 20th) are scheduled locally on your phone. No server is involved and no data about you exists anywhere.
  • The app uses Firebase Cloud Messaging for occasional broadcast announcements (e.g. “SASSA changed payment dates”). This relies on an anonymous device token generated by Firebase; we attach no personal data to it, and we cannot identify you from it.

Advertising

The app is free and supported by ads served by Google AdMob, a third-party advertising service provided by Google. Ads shown in the app are not endorsements by us or by SASSA.

  • What Google collects. To serve and measure ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect device information such as your device’s advertising identifier (Android Advertising ID / Apple IDFA), IP address, coarse device/diagnostic information, and ad interaction data.   • What we never share with advertisers. Your ID number, phone number, and grant check results are never shared with Google, advertisers, or any ad network. Ad serving is completely separate from the status check.
  • Consent. Where required by law (for example in the EEA/UK), a consent message is shown before personalized ads are served, and you can decline. On iPhone, Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt lets you refuse tracking; if you refuse, ads are still shown but are not personalized.
  • Your choices. You can reset or delete your advertising identifier and opt out of ad personalization in your device settings (Android: Settings → Google → Ads; iPhone: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking / Apple Advertising).

No accounts, no sign-up

The app requires no account and no sign-up. Beyond the advertising described above, the app contains no analytics or tracking of any kind.
