How to Update Existing Application SASSA R350?

To get a grant from SASSA you have to apply and provide all the necessary information on your application. In case you have entered something wrong, changed your phone number or bank account, or need to update your existing application for the SASSA R350 grant, here is how you can do that safely and securely.

Keep in mind that the grant is still widely known as the R350 grant, but the amount was increased in 2024 and today it is paid as the SRD R370 grant, so R350 and R370 refer to the same grant.

Make sure to pay attention to the details below and the step-by-step guide we are describing here so that you are aware of how to update existing applications of R 350 and inform the organization about the change in the information you have provided before.

Before You Start

Before you begin, keep these three things ready so the process goes smoothly:

  • Your 13-digit South African ID number.
  • The mobile number you registered with when you first applied (this is where the OTP is sent).
  • For a banking change, your new bank account number, branch code and account type.

One important point to understand first. There is no single button that changes everything at once. SASSA has separate update paths depending on what you want to change, so pick the right one below.

How to Update Your Mobile Number

If your phone number has changed, you need to fix this first, because every other update sends an OTP to your registered number.

  • Open the SASSA SRD website by clicking on srd.sassa.gov.za.
  • Scroll to the section for changing your cell phone number.
  • Enter your 13-digit South African ID number and the 6-digit Application ID (AppID) that SASSA issued to you when you applied or reapplied.
  • Follow the instructions on screen to update your number.

If you no longer have access to your old number and cannot complete this online, contact the SASSA call centre on 0800 601 011 and they will help you update it.

How to Update Your Banking Details

If you have opened a new account, switched banks, or entered your details wrong, this is the path to use.

  • Open srd.sassa.gov.za and go to the banking details update section.
  • Enter your 13-digit South African ID number and submit.
  • SASSA will send an SMS with an OTP that is unique to you, sent to the mobile number you registered with during your application. Enter this OTP to verify.
  • A “Bank Details Update” screen will open. Click “Verify Identity” to continue, as this identity verification step is required before any new banking details are accepted.
  • Choose how you want to be paid and enter your account number, branch code and account type.
  • Check the details carefully, then confirm and submit.

Keep in mind that the bank account must be in your own name. SASSA cannot deposit your SRD grant into another person’s bank account, so make sure the account matches your ID details.

Once submitted, SASSA usually takes between 5 and 7 working days to process the change, and sometimes up to 10 working days. Your payment will only go through once the new account is verified, so be patient and keep checking your status.

How to Update Your Existing Application

If your details have changed, or your application was declined or expired and you need to update and resubmit it, use the reapplication path.

  • Open the website of SASSA SRD by clicking on srd.sassa.gov.za.
  • Scroll to the option to update your existing application.
  • Enter your ID number and the mobile number you used before, then submit.
  • Enter the OTP that is sent to your phone by SMS to verify that it is really you.
  • Review and update your personal and banking information as needed.
  • Submit, and you will get a message confirming that your update was received.

After you submit, you can check your SASSA status online after about seven working days to see the outcome.

When Updating Will Not Help

It is important to know that changing your banking details will not fix an application that was declined for eligibility reasons. If you were declined because of your income, your age, or an identity check that did not match Home Affairs, a banking update will not unlock that payment. In that case you have the right to appeal the decision with the Department of Social Development for each month your application was declined.

Also note that you can only correct your name if your previous application was declined because of an incorrect spelling, and the corrected name must match your details on the Department of Home Affairs database.

Stay Safe From Scams

Because this grant supports so many people, scammers try to target beneficiaries with fake links and messages. Protect yourself by keeping a few things in mind:

  • Only make changes on the official website, srd.sassa.gov.za, and type the address yourself instead of clicking links from SMS or social media.
  • SASSA will never ask you for your PIN, password or OTP by phone or message.
  • Updating your details is completely free, so never pay anyone to do it for you.

Final Word

Whenever there are any changes in your personal information, phone number or bank details that you provided when you first applied, you should update your information without any second thought. It is a must to do so to get the grant smoothly and without any interruptions, because outdated details are one of the most common reasons payments are delayed or fail to go through.
