SASSA Disability Grant Online Application, Form & its Amount

One such scheme is the disability grant offered by SASSA. It is quite famous across the country and for good reasons. However, there are tons of applications every year.

What is the Disability Grant?

This grant has been designed and offered by the South African Social Security Agency to the citizens of the country. The grant is specifically for disabled people living in South Africa, who are also struggling financially.

Not every disabled individual residing in the country can apply for, and receive the grant. This financial assistance is only for those individuals who can not support themselves or their families. Therefore, they will be able to cover their basic necessities without any trouble through the grant money.

What are the Eligibility Criteria for the Grant?

Similar to every other grant that SASSA offers, the disability grant is not for every person. There is an eligibility criteria that the applicant must meet to qualify for receiving the grant money.

• The first requirement of the disability grant is that the individual must be a resident of the country. They need to be a registered South African citizen. If you are a permanent resident of the country or a refugee, then you are also eligible for the grant.
• The second is the obvious one, the person needs to be medically disabled. An injury that can be healed with time does not count here. Moreover, the person also needs to be older than 18 years of age, but younger than 59.
• In addition to that, it is critical that the applicant must not be receiving any other social grant or monetary assistance. If they are on the receiving end of any financial help, or any other grant, then they are not eligible for the disability grant of Sassa.
• Furthermore, the person must also be not admitted to any state institution. If they are in a state institution and their medical bills are being covered, then their grant request will not be accepted as they will not be deemed eligible by the reviewing officers.
• The eligibility also includes the earnings and assets of the applicant and their spouses. This is called the means test. It basically involves the Sassa officers evaluating the annual income and assets of the applicant and their spouse to find out whether they are eligible or not.
• If the applicant is single, then their annual assets need to be a maximum value of R1,372,800. On the other hand, if the applicant has a spouse who has a job, then their combined annual assets and income should not exceed R2,745,600. Otherwise, they will not qualify for the disability grant provided by Sassa.

Required Documents

Now that you know about the eligibility criteria, you need to make a judgment to see whether you are fit for the grant or not. If you do not meet even a single requirement, then there is no point in applying for the grant. However, if you do meet all the requirements of Sassa for the eligibility grant, then you need to gather a couple of important documents for your application.

The first document that you need is your proof of identity. It can be the identity card issued by the government or the passport, proving that you are a citizen or permanent resident of South Africa. Without proof of identity, your application will not process, as it also provides proof of the applicant’s age.

The second thing that you are going to require is your medical reports that clearly state that you are disabled. An important thing to keep in mind here is that these medical reports should not be older than three months; otherwise, they will not be taken into consideration.

There are two types of disabilities: permanent and temporary. If you have a temporary disability, then your injury should make you unfit for work for a duration between 6 months to 12 months. If you have a permanent disability, then your condition must make you unfit for work for longer than 12 months.

In addition to that, you also need to provide the Department with your bank statement and proof of income. If your spouse is also working, then you need to provide their payslip as proof of income.

This will allow them to judge your annual earnings and make sure that you meet the means test. Moreover, the bank statement contains the applicant’s name and account details; therefore, the grant transfer is done smoothly in case of acceptance. You also need to have an affidavit issued to you by Sassa.

The last requirement is not documents but a medical assessment. You need to get checked by a doctor chosen by Sassa. The doctor will check to make sure whether the applicants are actually disabled and deserve the grant or not.

Disability Grant Online Application Process or Form

As per SASSA, Application forms are not available online, but you can get them from your nearest (SASSA) office.

The best way to apply for the grant is through the website of Sassa. You can fill out the disability grant application online to apply for the grant, without visiting the office of Sassa.

1. For this, you will need to open the website of Sassa Services with your login details. However, if you are not a registered user, then you need to register yourself on the website first.
2. Add all your credentials such as phone number, name, address, etc into the registration form.
3. After receiving the OTP on your mobile number, you need to add it to the registration form to complete the process.
4. Once you are registered on the website of Sassa, you need to log in with your details and search for the grants option.
5. Click on the ‘apply for a grant’ and then select the disability grant from the list.
6. Then you need to fill out the entire application with your information. Once the application form has been filled out completely, upload all the required documents.
7. Make sure to upload the documents in PDF format only.
8. Once the form has been submitted, the review process will start. It will take 2 to 3 months for the application to be accepted or rejected.
9. However, in case of acceptance, the applicant will receive funds calculated according to their day of application, R2080 per month.

Office Application

The first method of applying for the disability grant is through the office of Sassa. You need to visit the nearest branch of Sassa go to the counter and ask for the disability grant application form.

An application form will be given to you by a Sassa officer. It is critical to keep in mind that you must fill out the application form in the presence of a Sassa officer. You can also ask them for assistance in case of any problem.

Once the application form has been filled out accurately, then attach all your documentation to it and give it to the Sassa officer. They will give you a stamped receipt with their own sign. You must keep the receipt safe as it will be your proof of application.

Once you submit the application, the review process begins shortly after. In case a person is sick, or unfit and cannot travel to the Sassa officer, they can ask their family member to apply on their behalf. Sassa will declare that person your procurator and if the application gets accepted, they will receive the grant on your behalf to deliver to you.
