SRD SASSA Reconfirmation Process

The SASSA SRD reconfirmation process is the step where you confirm to SASSA that you still qualify for the R370 Social Relief of Distress grant, so your payments carry on without a break.

You do this online on the official SRD portal, where you verify your identity, check that your details are still correct, and confirm that your situation has not changed.

SASSA runs automatic checks on every beneficiary each month, but from time to time it also asks you to reconfirm your application directly, usually by SMS or a notice on the portal.

When that happens, you need to respond before the deadline, otherwise your grant can be paused. Reconfirmation is not the same as reconsideration, which is what you use after a decline. Here is what you have to do to reconfirm your Social Relief Of Distress Grant, step by step.

  • Open the official SRD website at srd.sassa.gov.za.
  • Go to the South African ID holders section and open the reconfirmation page (https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/reconfirmation).
  • Find the option that says “Click here to reconfirm your grant application” and select it.
  • Enter your 13 digit South African ID number and the cellphone number that is registered on your application.
  • Click “Send PIN.” A one time PIN (OTP) is sent to that number by SMS.
  • Enter the PIN and click the “Verify” button to log in.
  • Answer the short screening questions and check that your personal, contact, and banking details are still correct.
  • Update anything that has changed, then confirm and submit your reconfirmation.
  • Save the confirmation message or reference number as your proof.

During reconfirmation you can update your registered cellphone number, your banking details or payment method, and your answers about your income and circumstances. After you submit, SASSA verifies your details against government databases, so your status may show Pending for a short while before it updates to Approved. You can check the outcome at any time by looking at your status on the same portal.

One thing to keep in mind is that you should reconfirm whenever SASSA asks you to, which is usually every few months, so the agency knows that you still need the grant and still qualify for it. To keep qualifying, your total monthly income from all sources needs to stay at or below R624, which is the SRD income limit.

Note that this R624 income limit is not the same as the R370 that the grant actually pays out. If you ignore a reconfirmation request, your payments can be suspended, and if it is left for too long your application can be cancelled and you would have to apply again from scratch.
